“the London band have a thing for ambient electronica, thumping percussion and almost ethereal vocals…..tantalizing” FADER
“bubbling electronics, dark pulses that flicker like passing streetlights, and floaty cooed vox.”The Line of Best Fit
“Equal parts melodic, futuristic and with an eye on classic techno sounds, this latest cut is just the next step in Zola Blood’s blossoming, constantly evolving sound.” Complex
Zola Blood return with the first single from their self-produced debut album, ‘Infinite Games.’ slated for release later this year.
‘Heartbeat’ was written and recorded in the band’s Hackney studio and takes cues from the likes of techno heroes Matthew Dear and Trentemoller, blending layers of sumptuous percussion, analogue synths and atmospheric guitars.
Musically it reflects the band’s love of the dance music that pervades the area where they work into the night. Hang drums and acoustic guitars combine in complex rhythms, giving way to a euphoric climax, while the lyrics tell the story of a relationship that should never have been.
Heartbeat was produced by Zola Blood and mixed by David Oversby-Powell (Fyfe, Shura).
