Leftwing movement member, Dexman, is back with latest single, ‘Devil Ina Blue Dress’ which picks up where he left off with previous releases, developing his individual afro-rap style.
J Wanza, who also features on the track, opens ‘Devil Ina Blue Dress’ with an alluring hook that paves the way for the rest of the song. He sets up the stage perfectly for Dexman’s witty and expertly-crafted lyrics which provide the centrepiece for this latest release.
Whilst the lyricism of Dexman and J Wanza is at the heart of the track, the actual music plays a subtle, yet powerful role in backing them up. A strong beat is married with a steel drum-esque tone that exemplifies Dexman’s Afro-music influences and adds a real sense of groove that’s sure to get people up and moving. Consequently, it’s the kind of track you can really imagine being played in the club.
Some have labelled the up and coming artist as a ‘genre hopper’ which is by no means a bad thing. Dexman may be in the stages of still finding his exact sound, but dabbling across styles is a great way of doing this, which also exhibits Dexman’s versatility as an artist.
‘Devil Ina Blue Dress’ has received a brilliant response and after being featured on Link Up TV and Hackney’s Finest, the video has received over 40,000 views on the platforms in under a week. With influences including Dr Dre, Meek Mill, Skepta and Drake, it is evident that Dexman has big aims for his music in the coming future. Watch this space and you may just come across Dexman some time soon!
