‘Tennessee’ by INJIN

The mysterious yet experienced musician INJIN has released his latest effort, ‘Tennessee’ along with a scenic music video.

Folk rocker INJIN has lived the real rock ‘n’ roll life, hanging out with Jimi Hendrix’s drummer, Mitch, as well as members of Santana. Despite this, it wasn’t always that easy for him. His tough childhood influenced his song writing to form the personal album ‘Tennessee’ that self-reflexively strays from the conveyor belt material being constantly churned out in today’s music industry.

At the young age of just 7, INJIN bizarrely stopped growing and during his teens he was just 3″11 tall which lead to him being bullied at this formative stage of life. Fortunately, he was one of seven lucky ones who were able to receive a ground-breaking new treatment.

I N J I N’s difficult past gave him the knowledge and experience he needed and he soon grew in confidence, pushing musical boundaries by rearranging songs from the likes of Pink Floyd, Ten Years After and Deep Purple with his cover band Ruby Spoon. I N J I N took the name Ruby Spoon to America where he embraced the rock’n’roll lifestyle and his powerful vocals became his signature that helped him stand out from the crowd.

With a throwback 80s-infused sound, INJIN’s work offers something different that lovers of ‘proper’ music will be sure to appreciate.

Deranged to Divine – The wonderful new album from Carina Round

carina-round-_deranged-to-divine_-cd_dl-cover-norman-jean-roy

Carina Round has created an album with material spanning from 2001-2015, taken from her first four critically acclaimed albums: ‘The First Blood Mystery’, ‘The Disconnection’, ‘Slow Motion Addict’, ‘Tigermending’, as well as the EP ‘Things You Should Know’, home to the included track ‘For Everything a Reason’ which featured on the TV series ’American Horror Story: Murder House’. Complimented with two previously unreleased recordings, the bewitching ‘Gunshot’ and an alternate version of the track ‘Want More’, this collection perfectly illustrates the uniqueness of Round’s voice, barbed wire lyrics and a catalogue of haunting and beautiful songs.

Tracklisting

  1. You Will Be Loved
  2. Into My Blood
  3. Backseat
  4. Girl and the Ghost
  5. Elegy (US Version)
  6. Gunshot
  7. Come to You
  8. You and Me
  9. Downslow
  10. Message to Apollo
  11. Slow Motion Addict
  12. Overcome
  13. Want More (Alternate Version)
  14. How I See It
  15. For Everything a Reason
  16. Lacuna (Radio Version)
  17. Mother’s Pride
  18. The Secret of Drowning / Previously Unreleased / Vinyl Debut

Carina’s tracks are beautifully written and sang perfectly. A favourite track of mine is ‘Mother’s Pride’, check it out below:

It’s taken off of her ‘Tigermending’ album, it is just a pure and beautiful song, I also love the artwork for the ‘Tigermending’ album which you can see on the thumbnail of the video.

Another track I really enjoyed is ‘You and Me’ which is in memory of Jean Round, I’m not sure of the connection between Carina and Jean, but it seems like a beautiful tribute and the video is pretty moving too, it is fairly upbeat but it made me think of someone I had previously lost that I was close too, it made me think of all the happy memories though, it really resonated with me.

Rising star Kevin Jones reveals ‘Closer’ video

image

“His debut album shows precisely what the fuss is about”Q

Hotly tipped singer-songwriter Kelvin Jones has unveiled the official video for his brand new single ‘Closer’.

The concept for the video was crafted entirely by the 21 year old from Stevenage, which sees him put on his acting boots, shifting periodically through time, re-enacting scenes from old black and white movies, through to 90s hip-hop videos, up to the modern day. It was directed by Joe Connor, who also directed Kelvin’s award winning video for ‘Call You Home’, which saw a TV being sent into space.

Watch the video in full here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yaJYQVH6uM

“Kelvin Jones arrives almost fully formed. A confident, individual voice…the plucked acoustic guitar line is matched to those honeyed tones, each lyric tumbling forth in an emotional plea.” – Clash

After recent performances with X Ambassadors, a very well-received set at The Great Escape Festival, and a truly captivating display at a Notion Magazine show supporting Rationale, Kelvin will be performing across Europe during the coming months. The UK dates will see him showcase his exceptional talent at Cornbury Festival, Festival Number 6 and a headline show at London’s Barfly, as well as various dates across mainland Europe.

Kelvin made his debut UK TV performance on May 26th on Blue Peter as part of their Space Spectacular, performing his previous single ‘Call You Home’, as well as an interview. ‘Call You Home’ lit up the airwaves earlier this year courtesy of BBC Radio 2’s B-list. It also received spins on Absolute Radio and was championed by Sir Elton John on his Beats 1 show.

In addition to UK shows supporting the likes of James Morrison, Izzy Bizu and YouTube sensation Hannah Trigwell, Kelvin has also been capturing the hearts of fans across Europe. Already headlining sold out shows and winning awards in Germany and Switzerland, his infectious music is starting to spread.

New hypnotic track ‘Element’ and upcoming album from alternative pop trio The Hallows

UK alternative pop trio The Hallows gear up for the release of their debut album with this brand new hypnotic single ‘Element’.

As the group explains: ‘element was one of the first songs recorded and it helped to set the overall tone of the album. It was written as a positive and uplifting song about looking up to someone you love and the profound influence they can have on your life’.

Watch the video for Element here:

Championing their own very unique sound, The Hallows are an enchanting concoction of Kate Bush, Muse, Portishead and Tori Amos with their own individual dreamy essence thrown in.

The group’s eclectic sound is a result of the band members’ individual musical meanderings. Sarah has played as a backing vocalist/keyboard/Glockenspiel for Hafdís Huld supporting the likes of Paolo Nutini, Mika and Bloc Party at festivals as large as Glastonbury and SXSW. Joe meanwhile has supported notorious cult pornographic band Rock Bitch (a band renowned for rarely sporting support acts). He and Sarah have also shared the stage with Ronan Keating playing a number of television performances.

Meeting at university, the band shared a house together, in which third band member Dave subjected the group to strict drinking game rules, whilst also ensuring they all ate proper meals (now holding the unofficial title of ‘band chef’).

Sarah has played the role of Snow White whilst working at Disneyland – several elements of this fantasy world clearly making their way into the mystical sound of ‘Element’. As a child, Sarah also lived by a zoo and was kept often awake by roaring lions (the lions would often set the wolves off too, which sounds absolutely terrifying!)

Since forming, the group have been hands on with all aspects of their music including coming up with video concepts, artwork, set design, production and blogging.

Their upcoming album Of Time and Tides is out July 4th.

The group explain:The album is about life, relationships and how things can change over time. The album was written in the spirit of a bygone era because we wanted to encapsulate elements within all our lives that have influenced us both musically and personally. Sarah draws inspiration for the lyrics from the elements because they represent the never ending cycle of life and time in which we exist for a moment. We have combined these influences to create an album that displays our love for atmospheric instrumentation, lush melodies and, hopefully, pop songs you will want to sing along to.

Adam Lanceley – the man who was told he would never walk or talk again after a childhood brain injury – now a marathon runner and singer-songwriter

After a brain injury left him unable to walk or talk, marathon-runner and singer-songwriter Adam Lanceley has defied all odds, now releasing his new creative single ‘The Dream of Yesterday’.

As a child, Adam Lanceley was involved in car crash suffering a crushed pelvis, damage to his legs and a serious brain injury. Doctors said it would be unlikely that he’d ever walk or talk again. Determined to prove them wrong, Adam has since achieved incredible feats.

Watch this video to hear his story:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fIBwSXvlCs

Presented by the late HRH Princess Diana, Adam’s recovery was so remarkable that he was one of 150 children to achieve the McDonald’s Child of Achievement. Before realising his passion for music, his sights were set on acting, getting offered a place at The BRIT school (which he now regrets turning down!).

Adam was still able to find a place at East 15 Acting School, but soon found acting wasn’t for him: ‘This might have been a step too far – coupled with my vulnerable nature, a side effect of my head injuries, it had a detrimental impact on my mental health. I began to find acting too restrictive & had a lot of my own feelings that I would rather express in my own way, rather than someone else’s ideas in a script.

Choosing to pursue a music career, Adam has already released several albums slowly developing his sound into the unique brand it is today. Deliberately relying on an old-skool production style and using unconventional instrumentation, his new colourful album Postcards From Then… is a must-listen for anyone looking for something a little left-field.

If learning to speak again wasn’t already impressive enough, Adam has pushed himself to become a singer, developing his own unique vocal style: ‘I still have the gift of being able to communicate emotion and feeling through my music. What makes it more meaningful to me is that relearning my life skills includes having to learn to talk again.

Adam is dedicated to raising money for The Brain and Spine Foundation and has run a number of 10k runs and two marathons in support.

Postcards From Then… is set to be released May 23rd

Psych Rockers The Vryll Society Reveal Latest Track ‘La Jetee’

Have a listen to these psychedelic scousers!

{Photo credit: GloryBox}

————–
Deltasonic’s psychedelic rockers The Vryll Society have announced the release of their brand new single La Jetee, the latest track from one of Liverpool’s most exciting emerging bands.

La Jetee, a sixties French pop aesthetics release inspired by Chris Marker’s 1962 post-apocalyptic vision of Paris, is sure to draw more attention to the five-piece and arrives in conjunction with their extensive UK headline tour starting this week.
The Liverpool band’s melodic, psychedelic/space rock sound has lead to comparisons with Spacemen 3, The Horrors, The Verve and The Stone Roses and with an already well-built fan base and reputation under their belts, it’s not surprising Deltasonic Records had so much faith when signing them.
With Mike Ellis’ ethereal vocals occupying territory from Neu and Air to early Verve and Stone Roses, they undoubtedly deliver a unique blend of styles which they are making their own.

Japanese Fighting Fish are ‘Swimming with Piranhas’ in their new savage release!

Japanese Fighting Fish, four lads who anchor their boat in London, are bringing fun back to rock with their electrifying new album ‘Swimming with Piranhas’, plunging us knee-deep into ferocious riffs then pulling us out again with soaring vocals from frontman Karlost.

‘Swimming with Piranhas’ doesn’t sound like a great plan for the average diver but Japanese Fighting Fish jump right in and live to tell the tale. This album nibbles away at any possible preconceptions of the band until an epic creature with an unnerving undercurrent is left. The album title comes from the real life wild experiences of Karlost and drummer Sweetman in Ecuador whilst staying with a Quechan tribe when they took a dip in the Amazon River. After their excursion, the boys did a Lep Zep III move and retreated to the countryside to channel all they had learnt from the ‘tribal way of life’ into creating an exhilarating thrill-ride record that bites hard and won’t let you go.

Their latest single from it, ‘For Queen Marilyn’, was written spontaneously after arriving at the recording studio and being asked to ‘just play something’ to check sound levels. An ominous Muse-like riff was quickly followed by crashing drums before the whole thing took off into a grunge explosion. Unwittingly, the Queen was born! After several stages of development, the new track is now available on SoundCloud here!

‘Swimming with Piranhas’ is the band’s third album but the first with Matt McGuinness completing the troop. The album explores new depths with pounding bass lines, incredible drums, and Gareth Mochizuki Ellmer’s pedal board creating the ‘biggest space sounds at just the right time’, according to Karlost, whose own vocal performance is gritty and wild yet captivating throughout.

What do Royal Blood, Savages, and Cage the Elephant all have in common? They were all supported by BBC Introducing! And now Japanese Fighting Fish have joined that stairway there is no doubt they are destined for the heights. One of their next steps will be headlining the venue Milo at the Live at Leeds Festival 2016 and with their sets being renowned for explosive antics and the boys having a habit for ending up accidentally bleeding on stage, this will definitely be a spectacle not be missed.

‘For Queen Marilyn’ will be available on the 3rd June, followed by the album ‘Swimming with Piranhas’ due for release on the 17th June 2016.

Playing Mars – Burning Desire

The enigmatic duo made up of Jeff Shapiro and Angelique Lihou, aka ‘Playing Mars’ are hitting the high notes with new track ‘Burning Desire’.

The newly formed two-piece are set to release the stunningly eerie brand new track ‘Burning Desire’.

The London-based twosome pride themselves on capturing stimulation from vibes caught out of spontaneity. ‘Burning Desire’ is the product of a jamming session on Angelique’s birthday at 4am in Clapton. Upon investment of their creative expertise, the track oozes drama with a conspiratorial feel, with Jeff’s hypnotic bass line and Angelique’s hauntingly melodious vocals.

playing_Mars_001

Burning Desire’, showcases the pair’s musical talents and is an artistic demonstration of their unique creative chemistry. The pair are open to and influenced by every day moments that otherwise pass us by; making their music a captivating expression of what we all often think and feel. The pair are very much genuine music makers, taking inspiration from their surroundings, they even used the sound of Angelique’s spike scraping the floor in ‘Burning Desire’.

The quirky sounds of the duo show some resemblance to that of Goldfrapp, Sigor Ros, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Velvet Underground and Pink Floyd. The song has been remixed by Dan Goodie and Matt Schwarz, offering an energetic new take on the track.
