Unsettling New Sounds from Mavis Victory Project

Hip-pop? Groovecore? Almost impossible to categorise yet immediately infectious, Mavis Victory Project release their debut track which marries their dreamy sound with a nightmarish video.

If you thought having two brothers in the same band was dangerous, wait until you meet MAVIS VICTORY PROJECT. Featuring a near-record breaking four brothers, and aided and abetted by a childhood friend, the band’s unconventional line-up is the perfect match to their equally mould-breaking sound. Oozing seedy electronic loops and with echoing, swooping vocals, their sound is all dangerous street corners; distant sirens and the creeping underworld. Appropriately, their video is just as unhinged, inviting you into their world whilst looking at you suspiciously out of the corner of their eye.

Watch the video here:

Formed by the Ransom brothers – singer Michael, Phil on rhythm guitar, Ollie on bass, Chris on drums and Robert Rosser on guitar and keyboard – the whole collective is self-taught, taking the indie and garage rock blueprint to heart and learning their craft in any place they could. They honed their sound so it flowed organically – time signatures are out of the window; traditional verse/chorus/verse structures burned and thrown over the neighbour’s hedge. Their new single gets under your skin and slowly starts to peel it off, Michael’s breathy, ethereal vocals lulling you into a false sense of security and then pouncing.

With influences including Arctic Monkeys; Kanye West and ScHoolboy Q, Mavis Victory Project is the musical equivalent of joining a cult – once you’re in, you wonder how you ever managed without. The video to “Don’t Go Away” is due for release on September 22nd and is just as arresting as their sound; with girls, gangs and clandestine weirdery likely to eat away at the inside of your head in a way you won’t be able to resist.

Introducing: Chey – Dirty Love

_x2a1868

Dirty Love takes a unique view upon a love affair where the woman is in total control of what happens next. Speaking on the track Chey says “I wanted this song to emphasise the power of a woman, and how she uses her sexuality to get what she wants.” Having had previous support from Chris Needs MBE (BBC Wales), Chey hopes her new single will captivate audiences.

Diversifying the music industry and creating an amalgamation of styles and genres, Chey certainly does not take a shy approach. “Dirty Love was written in the heat of the moment, having feelings about someone else can sometimes be the trigger you need to move on from the relationship you’re in. I recorded the vocals the same day it was written, to reflect the emotion, I was feeling at that time, I wanted the single to be raw and edgy and convey as much passion as possible.” She added.

Dirty Love seamlessly switches from sultry, soulful lyrics and beautifully constructed melodic runs – into a mesmerizing guitar riff, fusing together to make a memorable ballad. Chey’s debut single Dirty Love is intelligent Indie/pop at its very best.

Dirty Love is set for official release on January 20th 2017, and available for pre-order December 23 on ITunes, Spotify and Tidal.

Specialists in epic indie-pop, Off Colour are looking to ‘Touch Down’ with new Single

Capture

With their ready-made, smooth brand of melodic indie pop, Off Colour are a Milton Keynes pair with all the tools to go a long way in 2015. Comprising two excellent male vocals, slick songwriting and clean, layered pop production, James and Antonio have worked hard over five years to build a following. Their brand new release continues their development with an epic, arena-ready sound, to be followed by a six track EP ‘Touchdown’ towards the later end of the year.

Often compared to the likes of Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Bastille and One Republic, their songs sway between quiet moments and epic builds, all combined with a thoughtful, autobiographical lyrical approach. It’s little surprise that they already have support within the industry, with Emeli Sande, Ed Sheeran and more heaping praise on them.

And with support slots with Bombay Bicycle Club and Rocky Nti already to their name, and a nomination for the newly formed UK Entertainment Awards in 2014,  this is a band who are ready and bursting to break through.

Listen to ‘Touch Down’ here:  https://soundcloud.com/officialoffcolour/off-colour-touchdown

A  culmination of a whirlwind few years which has seen Off Colour gain their excellent reputation through gigs at some of the UK’s most prestigious independent venues. Highlights include performing at the Roundhouse, supporting a Bombay Bicycle Club DJ set at the Amersham Arms, and playing at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club – all to great acclaim.

Their underground appreciation is growing exponentially, with Tinie Tempah blogging about them and features already on tastemaker sites such as SBTV, Pardon My Blog, Reload Sessions, Dropout UK and more.

Arguably, their continued rise is thanks to their melodic tones, superb production and excellent chemistry. Even though they came into music from different routes, the pair work together seamlessly. Antonio grew up around music with a father who worked as a DJ for over 30 years, including a stint with the BBC. James picked up his grandfather’s guitar at the age of seven, and began to learn the basics of classical guitar, but eventually stopped playing. However, after a promising career in football was cut short due to a heart condition, he picked the guitar up again and has since continued to master his craft, taking inspiration from an eclectic and diverse set of musical influences, including Bread, Fleetwood Mac, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Mayer and City & Colour.

Two different roads travelled, but both with the same destination – Off Colour are ready to unleash their new single ‘Touch Down’ on August 24th.

Shows:

July 9th – The Workshop, London

31st July – Lift 574,  Dalston

Johnny Wore Black – ‘Firefly’ / ‘Comfy Slippers’ double A side single

FullSizeRender

The musical musings of a poet turned rock song writer, Johnny Wore Black is an artist who uses words to draw listeners in to his unusual tales. Born from a background in the movie business and as an A-list stunt performer, Johnny Wore Black delivers a powerful and cinematic sound.  Insistent that it’s up to the listener to discover how the music fits into their own journey through life, the songs encompass everyday situations by twisting them into dark corners and putting them against a solid rock background.

On hearing the singles and the album as a whole it should come as no surprise that this acerbic brand of indie-rock already has fans among music’s top table. Notable followers of Jonny Wore Black include Tim Simenon (Bomb The Bass), Danny Bigfoot (Shanks and Bigfoot), Loretta Heywood (Winter in July), David Ellefson (Megadeth), Simon Hutchby (Earthtone 9) and more.

In the words of David Ellefson himself:

“Johnny Wore Black has a very unique sound that I like and as an artist creating a unique sound is one of the hardest things to do, you either have it or you don’t and to me Johnny Wore Black definitely has it.”

The latest fruit of this labour is the double A side single ‘Firefly’/’Comfy Slippers’, which will be independently released on June 15th. You can see the stunning animated video for ‘Firefly’ below, with sketchy, monochrome visuals augmenting a classy song about facing your own personal demons head on and the inherent challenges therein.

Punk/Rock New Single by YO

You can hear the track here:

Watch the video here:

‘Shake It’ as a track represents just one of the many areas that make Yo such an interesting band. Each track is specifically influenced by the place, time and events of its conception, so pinning down a genre is something of a challenge.

The single is taken from the album ‘Vagrancy’, an LP which demonstrates perfectly the versatile nature of Yo’s songwriting. Songs such as ‘Shake It’ are seemingly built for the high energy of live performance, but other tracks on the album suit different environments. Whether chilling out at a festival, going for it on a club dancefloor, jumping around at a live gig or relaxing in a local pub, there will be a song on this album which fits perfectly to every situation.

Altogether, it makes for a heady cocktail which is tough to pigeonhole, sewn together by the originality of vocalist Andre’s delivery.

Single ‘Shake It’ will be available from June 15th.

‘Take What You Need’ – Looking For Liams new single

This addictive new track to be unleashed on June 1st

Looking For Liam are an Essex based four piece band who have been compared to the likes of Muse, Coldplay and Arctic Monkeys. Formed in 2010, they first gained momentum in 2011 with a Battle of the Bands competition win, BBC Introducing coverage and a debut EP. Since then they have performed through another Battle of the Bands contest victory and an appearance at Brownstock Festival, and with new single ‘Take What You Need’ coming on June 1st they are more than busy.

Self-produced, the track is an excellent piece of their layered and thought out approach to songwriting, with deeper moments acting as punctuation to the more contemplative sections. It’s greatly impressive work from a band who are still only in their late teens, but show a great deal of maturity in their music. With four members who share a deep love for creating music, and ideas that overlap to create their varied indie back catalogue, Looking For Liam are a band who not only thrive from their great deal of talent at present, but the great potential to expand on it. That makes this band one of the most exciting in the UK right now.

Looking for Liam band members are:

Tom Harper-Ward – Lead Guitar/Keyboard/Vocals

Jordan Spowart – Rhythm Guitar

Sam House – Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals

Charlie Townsend – Drums/Backing Vocals

Up and coming new duo Dalimore aiming ‘Higher’ with their new single

New release unveiled on May 11th

A brand new duo from the North East of England, Dalimore are Dan Bishop and Nathan Brewis who formed as a duo late in 2014 having previously worked on separate musical projects. It hasn’t taken long for them to find their sound, with new single ‘Higher’ due for release on May 11th.

10947368_774945575926906_4701347353023807058_oWith comparisons to the likes of Kodaline, The Fray, The Script, Coldplay, Ben Howard and more, their tracks blend genres from indie, via soul, to pop-rock, taking in influences from their own individual backgrounds and mixing them to great effect.

You can hear the single ‘Higher’ on YouTube now, with a full official video due May 1st:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Hc9xDYCbc&feature=youtu.be

Their mission statement is to produce songs about making the most of life and working hard to be the best you can be – even when it seems easier to give up. It’s an admirable outlook, and one that has proven successful in the music industry in the past.

If there’s any justice, this level of determination will soon see Dalimore making their own mark on the music industry.

Dmitry Nechaev single ‘Memory (Unstaged)’ set for release Oct 29th

Flamboyant songwriter, Dmitry Nechaev is not the kind of artist who comes along every day. Born in Russia, his vocal is reminiscent of Savage Garden’s Darren Hayes, only with a deeper soul to the sound.

His latest single, due on October 29th, gives you a glimpse of what’s to come: https://soundcloud.com/dmitrynechaev/memory-unstaged

Watch him performing previous single ‘Anonymous’ here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWWxwiFcQYM

The single, recorded ‘as live’, is part of a larger collaborative project, stringing together a host of ‘Unstaged’ music videos to create a tightly woven plot. It’s an unusual way to release a single, but Dmitry has never done things the ordinary way.

Having toured the world while working as a model, his journey into the music industry started proper in 2008 when he won ‘Best Vocalist of the Year’ in a contest held between the leading music colleges and institutes of Moscow followed by debut album Ignis Fatuus release. For a time, he continued to work as a model, but has recently decided to make the transition to full time musician and songwriter.

Talented and creative in many fields – art, philosophy, music, writing, dance – Dmitry is an artist who will continue to work towards a career he believes to be his destiny. He is also a huge supporter of using his gifts to help others – several years ago taking part in a Moscow charity concert aimed at raising money to buy surgical equipment for Morozovsky Children’s Hospital. Being part of an event like that let him know he was on the right path, and he has not looked back since.

Eric Unseen aim to prove they have been ‘Brought Up The Right Way’ with new album

LP to be released on the same day as lead single, ‘That Ain’t Love’ – October 1st

A South Wales based boy band with a taste for energetically infectious melodies, Eric Unseen are a three piece with a growing reputation in the UK indie scene.

Having supported and gigged with a host of high profile names including Bastille, We are Scientists, The Alarm, The Stiff Little Fingers, Cast, Ocean Colour Scene, Skindred, Paramore, Goldie Lookin Chain, The Subways, and The Automatic, the band are now ramping up for further exposure with new album ‘Brought Up the Right Way’.

With a sound that comes across like a contemporary version of The Smiths with an indie twist, Eric Unseen are unlike any other band on the circuit at the moment, and aim to drive their point home with this album’s lead single – ‘That Ain’t Love’

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=It5f0Oj1YBU&feature=youtu.be

The band are no strangers to the stage and have really turned heads with the quality of their live shows. In addition to the impressive list of gigs above, they also reached the final of national competition ‘Live and Unsigned’, fighting through 10,000 acts to play in the showcase event at London’s O2 arena in front of 3 thousand people.

Their success though has not gone to their heads, and they happily joke about the gig they played the next day – a small pub with seven people in it who were there to watch the football.

Fans include producers Greg Haver (The Manic Street Preachers, Cataonia, Super Furry Animals), Richard Jackson (Duffy, The Automatic) and Slade front man Noddy Holder, all impressed by Eric Unseen’s versatile and consistently high quality songwriting.

And it all comes from an outlook of simplicity and the feel of a band simply having fun, with lyrics inspired by a relatable life in ‘The Valleys’ of Wales painting a very different picture from the trashy MTV attempt at reality television.

The album and single will be available from October 1st and is being funded by new crowd funding site Free The Music Book: http://freethemusicbook.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=61
